MySpace Music

MySpace.com has an enormous number of lesser known or unsigned artists who may be willing to allow their music to be used if asked

The music search facilities on MySpace.com, coupled with the enormous numbers of unsigned artists and bands who have established a presence on MySpace make it a good potential starting point for finding the right music for your video:

Hints

To find music that may be suitable, try the following:

  1. Use the Genre to narrow the search if you are looking for a specific type of music
  2. Use Search By: Influences or Search By: Sounds like to find music similar to music you already know
  3. Find a band or artist you already know then follow links from that page

Warning!

Most artists pages on MySpace.com have a number of tracks available to listen to or even download, but it is important that you realise that this does not give you a licence to use the music. You CANNOT assume you have the right to use any the music you find on MySpace.com without seeking permission from the artist or their management.

Contacting the artist

If you find something suitable on MySpace.com, you will need to contact the artist for permission (unless there some sort of statement on the page giving permission to use the music of course).  This may mean having to register with MySpace in order to send a message, but often there will be a link to the artist's own web site with a feedback form or email address.
