FS2002 vs FS2004 Terrain Resolution - Page 14

by admin last modified 2006-05-31 06:22

An examination of the maximum resolution at which terrain can be displayed in FS2002 and FS2004. IMPORTANT! Since this article was written, FS2004 Update has restored FS2004 to 19m capability.

Does all this matter? (2)

If you compare this to the previous screenshot, you'll see the greater terrain display resolution coming into play in tightening up the definition of the V-shaped valley in and ridges, particularly in the foreground.

The differences here are not enough to spoil your party if you're restricted to FS2004's ~38m, though they do have more noticable effects in areas of more extreme terrain such as cliffs where the extra resolution in FS2002 contributes to helping prevent grass textures fall over the edge of cliffs or sea textures climbing up the base of cliffs.
