Updates and patches available for VFR Terrain users

Patches

Tynemouth Patch and Anglesea (Cemaes Bay) Patch

These patches remove the rectangles of land in the North Sea off Tynemouth and in the Irish Sea off Cemaes Bay, Anglesey:

Installation instructions: Right-click the download links and save the BGL files into the VFR Terrain LWM scenery folder, normally C:\Program Files\VisualFlight\VFRTerrain\VFRTerrainLWM\scenery.

France Landclass Patch

This patch is only useful to anyone having France Landclass (lc_france.zip) installed. It will remove a rectangle of land off the French coast:

Installation instructions: Right-click the download link and save the BGL files into file into an existing scenery folder, e.g. the default NOKFreeware scenery folder, normally C:\Program Files\NokFreeware\Coastlines1\scenery.

London Docklands 'Real Water' Patch

This patch is intended for users who have both VFR Photographic Scenery and VFR Terrain. It serves two purposes:

  1. Improves the accuracy of the shorelines in VFR Terrain 'real water' textures in the vicinity of London City Airport.
  2. Adds 'real water' textures to the Isle of Dogs including Canary Wharf. Also adds 'real water' to Surrey Docks.

This patch is compatible with Visual Flight London, the ultimate scenery enhancement for London. Visual Flight London includes all the Canary Wharf buildings rising up amidst the waters provided in this patch plus a whole host of other features for London's docklands, Central London, London City Airport and elsewhere. VFR Textures Vol 1 South 'Real Water' Patch

This patch is intended for users who have both VFR Photographic Scenery and VFR Terrain, with 'real water' VFR Textures installed. It serves two purposes:

  1. Removes flooding at London Heathrow.
  2. Removes flooding along the South Kent coast.

A detailed readme including manual installation instructions is included.

Margate Patch

This patch fixes the missing land at Margate in the NE corner of Kent. Supplied as two separate patches:

For all VFR Terrain users:

Additional patch for VFR Terrain users who also have VFR Photographic Scenery Vol 1 and have 'real water' VFR Textures (as supplied with VFR Terrain) enabled:

Please download and install the terrain patch prior to installing this textures patch.

Sker Point Patch

This patch fixes the missing triangle of land on the coast just south of Sker Point in South Wales. This problem only affects users of VFR Terrain and VFR Photographic Scenery (Vol 3) who have installed the replacement VFR Textures supplied with  VFR Terrain. If you do not have any missing land on the coast at this point, you do not need this patch. Manual  installation instructions are included.

Note: This version of the patch replaces the original patch dated 27 Feb 2005 and 13KB in size.

Holyhead Patch

This patch fixes a problem of missing terrain mesh scenery West of Holyhead, Isle of Anglesea. The download is just 4KB. Manual installation instructions are included:

Important: If you are not a legitimate user of VFR Terrain you may not download this patch.

Replacement Coastlines by Nigel Glossop

This is the first release of a replacement coastline for the sections of French, Dutch and Channel Islands coasts which are removed when Visual Flight VFR Terrain is installed.

Many thanks to Nigel for the work he has put into creating this freeware scenery for the benefit of all VFR Terrain users.

Excludes

London Exclude

For users without VFR Photographic Scenery Vol 1, excludes default London scenery. 

Note: Supplied as a single BGL file suitable for expert users only.

FS2004 Update Bridge Excludes

One of the features of the FS2004 Update is the newly created bridges, including 24 for the UK which weren't in the original FS2004 release.

While these are generally very welcome, they will cause problems:

1. With geographically accurate scenery such as VFR Terrain and VFR Photographic Scenery

2. Where payware or freeware add-on scenery has already replaced the missing bridges (usually with more detailed and superior renditions).

In view of this, many users will want to disable some or all of the new bridges in the FS2004 Update. The following download contains separate BGLs to disable different bridges or groups of bridges. It should be obvious which bridges are excluded from the file names, but here's the list in any case:

To use, extract files into any active scenery folder from Addon Scenery or above in Scenery Library.

If you don't want them all, delete the ones you don't need.

Notes:

1. These files have only been partly tested. If you find that any bridge listed in the FS2004 Update readme file has not in fact been excluded, please let me know by replying here. (Confirmation of successful removal would be equally welcome).

2. The area covered by the exclude files may extend beyond the area of the bridge, and it is possible that adjacent features will be affected also. (This is only really relevant in London).

3. The exclude files do not remove bridges present in the scenery prior to the FS2004 update. There are one or two of these over the Thames.

Compatibility solutions

OSS Shoreham Airport/Flying Club Compatibility

Users of VFR Terrain who also have OSS Shoreham Airport or Flying Club published by Just Flight can use the following files and instructions provided by Alan Trussell and Paul Kirby to make Shoreham airport and the surrounding scenery fully compatible with VFR Terrain:

This download is particularly relevant to users who have increased the terrain resolution of FS2002/FS2004 to 19m as recommended to get the best from VFR Terrain. Users who have not done this yet can do so by running FSConfig.
